Hong Kong

Sightseeing

Decided to take the Hop on Hop off bus today to take a look around Hong Kong Island. First stop was Victoria Peak and the tram to the top. The queue at the bottom was long to say the least, something which we are not used to doing in NZ! The view from the top was spectacular, but as usual the ever present smog was hanging over the city. After having some lunch there, we headed out along the coast to the Stanley street markets. It was interesting to see the stark contrast between poor and rich living, the bays along the coast obviously homes to the more wealthy. The markets were teeming with people, probably a little worse due to the fact it was Sunday. After a quick look around , we decided it was time for a beer, so we sat our tired bodies down and enjoyed the hustle and bustle going on around us. Then it was back along the coastal road, back onto the ferry, finally getting back about 7pm. We attempted to find a restaurant serving Peking duck, but they were all booked so we settled on some chinese food (by that stage I don't think we really cared)!! On the walk back to the hotel, Martyn and Simon were approached by two ladies of the night wanting some business......lol. A fitting end to a full on day. Tomorrow we are off to Lantau Island on the cable car to see the giant buddha.

Hong Kong

On our way

Good morning all, from the Holiday Inn, Hong Kong. We arrived early yesterday morning, all feeling little jaded to say the least. The seats on the plane saw us all squashed like sardines. Am sure Air NZ has decided to make a few extra dollars by installing an extra row or two. Things are pretty dire when you have to climb over your arm rest to get out of your seat!! However, we made it eventually and are now enjoying being in the Holiday Inn on Nathan Road. Had quick look around yesterday afternoon, the usual hustle and bustle of a vastly overcrowded city.!! We met up last night for happy hour drinkies. Robyn and Simon went into a coma and missed the agreed meeting time, and goodness knows what Aunty Sylvia was getting up to with the Chinese chocolate man. After realising we were totally ripped off with the two for one drinkies deal, we ambled off to dinner at a local chinese restaurant. Martyn ate Robyns meal and his own, Robyns came an hour after everybody elses, and Aunty Sylvia enjoyed her whole fish. A fun night had by all. Plenty of laughs. Today we are off on the hop on hop off tour bus around Hong Kong, which includes Victoria Peak, Stanley Markets and a sampan boat ride..........oh dear, that sounds dodgy already!! Will post some photos before we leave for London in few days time..........Leanne xx
